How to write a Major Scale


Question:
Write one octave of the scale of F major, ascending only, in whole notes using the Treble Clef.
Add the appropriate key signature.
Answer:
a) On a music staff draw a Treble clef at the beginning, then add the eight notes of the scale starting on the note F. Leave a small space between the clef and the first note so that the key signature may be inserted later:

Please note: An octave is the pitch distance between any note and the nearest note of the same name, either up or down. For example between Middle C and the next highest C, or between Middle C and the C below, the distance is an octave. The scale above therefore covers an octave, from the first note to the last. Also with regard to the above scale, please note that each line and space of the staff between the first and last notes should have a note -- there should be no missing notes and no repeated notes.

b) After the clef add the correct key signature for F major and draw a double bar-line at the end:
