THEORY BY EMAIL

ENTERING EXTERNAL EXAMS

Many students of THEORY BY EMAIL will be content to merely follow the course to its end in order to increase their knowledge and understanding of musical theory.

However, there will be others who, having worked through the course, will want to enter for an external examination -- especially at Grade 5 level, as those students who are taking practical exams on an instrument or voice with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music are not allowed to enter for a higher level exam (Grades 6 to 8) unless they have first passed Theory of Music at Grade 5 level.

It is therefore a necessity for such students to study theory, and it is mainly (but not exclusively) students from this group who will wish to enter for an external exam.

Both examination boards whose syllabuses are covered by the course THEORY BY EMAIL have international operations, although in certain parts of the world there is somewhat limited availability of local centres. If you think you may wish to take a theory exam in the future you are advised to check up on the whereabouts of exam centres in your area by clicking here.

Details of the actual process of entering an external examination will be sent to each student after they have successfully completed each grade of the course.
