The online version of the correspondence course Theory by Post is now available!
Theory by Email is a convenient way to study the theory of music, working on one's own computer at home and in one's own time. It covers the syllabuses of two United Kingdom music examination boards -- the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, and the Trinity College (London). Both of these boards have operations throughout the world, making it possible for students to take examinations in their own country (for further details please click here). All students of the course are equipped with a free evaluation copy* of the music notation program Music Publisher 5 (supplied by Braeburn Software, of Selkirk, Scotland). This software must be used to work the course exercises, but of course it can also be used in a number of other ways, so is a valuable bonus for each student. Theory by Email therefore provides a great opportunity for each student to own a copy of one of the best music notation programs currently on the market, at no extra cost.
* Evaluation copies of 'Music Publisher' are unregistered versions which however include almost all the features of the full version.
Each enrolled student should possess a PC-type computer running Windows and preferably a processor speed of at least 200MHz. Students will also need an email program which is capable of sending multiple attachments (such as Outlook Express), an internet connection, approximately 20 Mb of free space on their hard drive and a valid credit card for payments.
Theory by Email is now available to all English-speaking students throughout the world. Currency options for payment include US Dollars, Great Britain Pounds and Euros, but further international currencies may be introduced upon demand.
As Theory by Email has not been running as long as Theory by Post, there are fewer comments received from students as yet; however there are some comments from members of the postal course Theory by Post which are available for inspection by clicking here. Theory by Email is an upgraded international version of the same course.

If you feel that you would like to 'give it a go', you will need to fill in the enrolment form, then pay for your first module by credit card (there is a link to the secure payment page after completing the enrolment form). You may decide to opt for at least ten modules of the course, in which case your payment for ten modules will be at a reduced rate (you will save £10.00). The number of modules contained in each grade of the course is as follows:
